After Fernando Alonso's request for a minute of silence at the street circuit of Valencia after the plane crash in Madrid that killed 153 people, Francisco Camps, the president of the local region around Valencia asked Bernie Ecclestone to adopt the status of official morning for the European Grand Prix.

The three days of nationwide mourning in Spain began yesterday, one day after the crash at the airport in Madrid. It is believed that a period of silence will take place at the Valencia track at noon on Friday.
