Peugeot have finally succeeded in their attempt to win the Le Mans 24 hours race with their diesel powered 908 DDi FAP. It was the #9 car of Wurz, Gene and Brabham that took the win after having led the race since 8pm in the evening.

Before it gained the lead, the car was trailing the even faster #8 but when they had their car ruined after a flat tyre and a small collision with the Pescarolo Peugeot it dropped back initially behind the #1 Audi R15.

The Peugeot however proved consistently faster than the new Audi and thanks to the driving of Franck Montagny during the night, the team were able to take second place never to give it away again. Even though the margin was small during the whole race, the Peugeot's got a bit of free room when the quickest Audi R15 need a driveshaft change at around 11h in the morning. They found themselves 6 laps down on the leader when rejoining the track.

In fourth position was the first petrol powered car, the Lola Aston Martin #007 from Dave Richard's prodrive team.

In LMP2, the Essex Porsche Spyder RS #31 was victorious, also after having led more than half or the race. LMGT1 was won by the Corvette C6.R #63 and in LMGT2 it was the Ferrari F430 #27.
