Hamilton tops FP1 at Montreal
During the first free practice session of the Canadese Grand Prix, McLaren's Lewis Hamilton clocked the fastest lap time. At the Gilles Villeneuve track, the Briton was followed by Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg in his Mercedes.
A few drops of rain fell throughout the session but didn't require teams to switch to intermediate or wet weather tyres.
Hamilton soon took charge of the session as he went into the lead early on after his first stint of flying laps.
Few minutes past halfway, Heikki Kovalainen created some action on track as he lost control of his Caterham F1 car when coming out of turn 9. As he hit the wall on the outside of the turn he broke off two wheels and caused a session stoppage of nearly 15 minutes.
After the restart, Nico Rosberg briefly went fastest until Lewis Hamilton provided another improvement. Sebastian Vettel managed to post the second best time close to the end of the session when running on the super soft tyres.
