Honda to introduce an upgraded engine at Spa

McLaren’s struggling engine manufacturer is reported to introduce new upgrades on its engine at the forthcoming race weekend in a bid to close the gap to the field-leading Mercedes power unit.

Despite dominating the late 80’s, the reborn marriage of McLaren and Honda haven’t beared fruit yet as the duo has endured a very challenging and though season so far. McLaren was not only dogged by poor reliability, but the power deficit to the likes of Ferrari and Mercedes have been also ominous.

Honda reached a massive step in Hungary by having been running without major problems throughout the whole weekend. They also stated that the Hungarian round was the first time that engines could be run on full power. As the next step they want to add a few more horse power in Belgium.

According to the Italian omnicorse.it Honda will use three tokens of their remaining seven and will increase the outright power output by 15 horse power.

“We are delighted to bring 15 horse power with some modifiations, “ stated a Honda technician. “That is a bit of a step of the long road to Mercedes. Before the end of the season we will exploit our remaining four tokens.”

According to the Italian publication the turbo and compressor of Honda have been successfully developed, but their MGU-H is still long way behind the systems of Mercedes.

Honda and fellow suffering engine manufacturer Renault are said to miss almost 100 horse power to Mercedes.
