Will Hamilton win his first GP?

It was a qualifying session like a dream for the McLaren Team at Montreal. Rookie Lewis Hamilton snatched his first pole position, while team mate Fernando Alonso will start beside him on today's grid. Nick Heidfeld will start from 3rd position this afternoon as he was faster than both Ferrari's. But who has the most chance to win this afternoon. Will Hamilton be able to collect his first Grand Prix victory?

Lewis Hamilton was absolutely thrilled with his maiden pole position. Of course the rookie driver is now hoping to snatch his first Grand Prix victory. The Briton said: “I’m absolutely 100 per cent over the moon to claim my first ever Formula 1 pole position and at a circuit where I have never been before. I knew it was a good lap and was absolutely flat out. I almost touched the wall at the last corner but when I came over the line and was told I had pole position I was so happy. I’m really looking forward to the race tomorrow and whilst Fernando and I are not going to do anything stupid, obviously I want to stay at the front."

Team mate Alonso still believes in his chances to win the Canadian Grand Prix. The Spaniard made a small mistake during his last hot lap, which costed him pole. The double World Champion said: “I’m happy to be on the front row for tomorrow’s race and for Lewis to be on pole next to me. It’s a great result for the team."

"I obviously want to win but also I’m not going to win the Championship this weekend so will be sensible.”

Nick Heidfeld was the surprise of the afternoon as he outpaced both Ferrari cars. The German BMW Sauber F1 Team driver will start from third position on today's grid. “I am very satisfied with third. We came here hoping we would be stronger than in Monaco, and would be as good as we have been in the last couple of years, as BMW has always been strong on high speed circuits and so has Sauber.”

The first three drivers on the grid are ready for this afternoon's Canadian Grand Prix, but of course Ferrari can't be underestimated. Let's hope for an exciting race!
