It'll be better tomorrow - Kovalainen

The Finnish ING Renault Formula One Team driver, Heikki Kovalainen, is not very happy about his first day at Monza but he remains confident. The rookie isn't completely satisfied with the balance of the car and had to drive most of the morning session with a damaged tyre.

Heikki, how did your Friday go?

"Not great. In the first free session I flat-spotted one of my tyres. Our strategy was to use only one set so I had to do the whole morning session with a damaged tyre. In these conditions, it was difficult to find the same sensations as last week."

How was the car’s balance?

"I’m not completely satisfied with it. We’re going to have to do a fair amount of work this evening to get things right. It’ll be better tomorrow."

Where do the BMWs stand in relation to Renault?

"I don’t know. We’ll have to gather more data and we haven’t done our simulations yet. We’ll have a better idea of our level of competitiveness tomorrow."

Finally, how do you judge your performances for the team since Melbourne?

"For sure I feel more competitive. I’ve also got more confidence in the car, which is a whole lot better now: I can push. My relationship with the engineers just keeps getting better and better. From that point of view, it’s all positive."
