Porsche wiping the floor in GT...yes they have some extra money since exiting LMP1 so that their GT program benefits from that. But it is a long race....Ford GT is still very competitive although qualy didn't show it. Also new Aston Martins vs. 4 year old Corvettes
The only thing porsche benefits from is a veeeery generous BoP.
GT-Class with its remind to real road cars could potentially be spectacular.
but BoP reduces it to a pure political risiko.
"Veeeery generous BoP" I guess you didn't know, but they got stuck with an extra 10kg for the race
If anyone has benefitted from BoP, its BMW.

It was exactly at the timing of camera switching but looks like there was little contact between Toyota and Rebellion.

btw how easily the nose of rebellion came off and how it managed to keep going without nose

Press says Lotterer managed to hit Alonso before the first corner, but it's not clear to me in the video
I watched it live and the replay onboard from lotterer shows the contact much clearer than the other vid.

This will be the first year in a long while I won't be watching. P1 is a joke, privateers mandated to run slower ETs and shorter stints than Toyota, fuel flow cut back to reduce their speed, typical ACO. Oreca running away in P2 as per usual, Porsche wiping the floor in GT. Yawn.
What will the situation be in 2019?
Depends on whether or not they make changes to allow non hybrid cars to adequately compete.

Lotterer said there was no contact. The front end was not mounted correctly, thus dropped down before the corner which led the car to slide uncontrollably. I think this picture confirms it:

Agree this is an effort from WEC to give Alonso the Le Mans win best chance in order to help him with his triple crown assault.
Wasn't all of that decided before Alonso joined Toyota?
Is there any system in the Toyotas switching the positions? Is it once a stint or after two stints? Did they already do the coin toss for the win?

Just seems to be let the quicker car by just now. Happened both ways so far.

I think like Spa it'll be race until the last stops and then some formation flying after that I would suspect.

Someone needs to tell the press it was Buemi in the Toyota at the start.

Just a little tap but the rear of the No.8 did get replaced when they got a puncture later on so might have caused some damage.

SMP Racing have just endured a difficult few moments

#17 LMP1, at the time driven by Isaakyan, crashed out from 3rd position. Probably returning to pits, but Rebellion is now 3rd and 4th overall. Isaakyan tried to get the car going again, but 50m later, the engine blew... DNF

#35 LMP2 with Harrison Newey (son of Adrian) had a blown rear tyre. Extra pitstop needed.

#11 LMP1 had a early issue requiring a lengthy stop. Button's car is now driving 50 laps down on the leading Toyotas.

How did car #8 ended up 37 seconds behind car #7 before #8 was hit with 60 seconds stop and go? I slept and missed it.

#8 is a lap behind #7. Any chance of winning for #8? Anyone seen a car win coming from a lap behind? This is my first time actually watching Le Mans so I don't know how it all works.
I just want Fernando to win, I saw him lose WDCs, waste his career years in underperforming cars. I just want to see him win and achieve what he aims for...

A safety car will level things up easily. And there will surly be a safety car because there is still 14 hours to go.

Thanks for the answer. I will keep it on my TV, hope I won't fall asleep.

Last year the car that won was about 20 laps down at a certain point, but totally different circunstances, the lead car dropped out and his main challenger was a LMP2 car (really), he made up that difference on pure pace.

This time it seems like the #8 will need circumstances to get back level with the #7, but they may well happen it's a 24h race afterall.
