A good afternoon - Fisico

By on

Back on the podium for the first time since Malaysia, the Italian driver of the Mild Seven Renault F1 Team savoured the champagne this afternoon. Fisichella finished third behind Michael Schumacher and winner Fernando Alonso.

Giancarlo, how was your race?

"Pretty good. I got a good start, with a better reaction time than Fernando. But I went into turn 1 in second place, then pushed hard in the first stint, because we were lighter than Ferrari. Michael Schumacher just got ahead in the first stops, then as I was talking with my engineer, I lost control in turn 3. I went into the gravel and lost time, which meant I couldn’t try for second place, unless Schumacher had a problem."

Are you pleased with the result?

"Yes, of course. The team did a great job today. My aim was to be on the podium and I managed it. What’s more, I scored good points for the constructors’ championship, because the second Ferrari finished behind me."

Will the rest of this year’s races be a battle between Renault and Ferrari?

"For the last two or three races, these two teams have been a little bit above the rest. But we are not under-estimating the competition, especially because the next race in Monaco is an unusual one. We will stay very concentrated and won’t back off in our effort."
