Engine cover update for Ferrari

By on

Ferrari have released a complete new aero package for the rear of their car during the Barcelona testing. While the team is said to have a brand new cooling system in the car, apparent aerodynamic changes were added to further support the increase in efficiency. The engine cover is now more curved in the upper part. Since FIA regulations state that the airbox must have a specified minimum surface and because Ferrari engineers cut out some carbon in between the rear wheels some surface had to be added somewhere else. The cover now resembles much that of BMW Sauber and McLaren. Please also note the thin shark gills on the outer side of the exhausts to help cool the engine down.

The amount the sidepods sculpt in on the Ferrari these days the sponsers need a torch to read their names.

It would be nice to get a side by side comparison of the two engine covers. If my memory serves me correctly the cooling gills were much larger, but also appeared to be further up on the sidepod. This seems to be an area of the car that Ferrari has been focusing much of the aero attention, as apposed to other teams who seem to be doing a lot of tweaking up front. I guess Ferrari just had everything else dialed in. 8)

I can\'t wait to see them duke it out with Mclaren next weekend!!!

Viva Fernando !!!

This goes way

beyond an aero update, if I\'ve understood what Ferrari has done correctly - the wheelbase itself is 5 cm shorter than it was at the start of the season. Couple that with the smaller sidepods and it becomes clear just how much more compact the design is. People have billed much smaller changes as \"B\" specs and such. The F2007, in my book, raced three times. This is something else.

Who says the wheelbase is shorter?

It has been rumored that this F2007 is a B-spec car....
