Ferrari introduce extended sidepod panel

By on

It took them half a season, but finally Ferrari have also copied the extended sidepod panel concept. It is however far simpler than the panels seen at BMW Sauber or Williams, but there are no doubt reasons for that. The moment of introduction already hints that the team's have has less aerodynamic benefit from such a panel compared to what other teams may gain out of it.
Note how the panel is slightly curved, similar to rival cars. Ferrari did however choose not to change anything to their existing sidepod panel or barge boards and instead simply connected the two elements with a carbon fibre aerofoil.

How does this make anything better?

It helps clean up the messy flow that comes off the suspension members and wheels to make elements further down the back of the car be more effective. Possibly, it also makes the sidepod vane/bargeboard setup a little stiffer, which should make them work more consistently.

By this way it doesnt change anything, at the fin connected to the bargeboard it only make things more turbulent. It was only a bad try to make the car better, it begins to look that ferrari is getting worse this change looks the same like honda did last year. There isnt an new design made for the barge board/sidepod vane, it is just pasted onto it with tape or something. It will b alot better if the vane is changed too and it is better connected to the barge board.
