McLaren introduce dumbo wings

By on

As of Saturday morning, the McLaren team has modified its cars to run with the new dumbo wings that the team designed. This version is a mix of what was seen previously as it copies the longer wing base of BMW while having similar dimensions to Honda's wings. Interestingly, it does not feature end plates which would be good to reduce wing-tip vortices. The team did however found a solution to that as - marked in the image - the tips are rounded for a smooth transition of the air around the wing.

Probably not the place to mention this (for which I apologise) but McLaren also introduced a front with with rear most element split into two elements in the central region under the nose cone - bringing the grand total of elements to five in this region - and that's not including the bridge wing! :)

Hi Tomba,

I believe it is 'Jumbo' wings rather than 'Dumbo' wings.

Its supposed to direct flow into the radiators so they can have smaller radiators. I wonder if this has compromised with the longitudinal balance because both the Mclarens where remarkably slow off the starting line.

the first lap of the mclarens is allways slow.
