Villeneuve in drivers shoot out

Jacques Villeneuve's Formula One Future is still unknown with BMW supposedly contemplating putting the former F1 World Champion through a 'shoot out' to gain a drivers seat for 2006. BMW Motorsport boss, Mario Theissen, says they still have to settle on who will partner up with Nick Heidfeld next season, but they are hoping to have their man by the end of November.

Jacques Villeneuve still remains confident that he'll be the man pointing to the fact that he is already contracted for 2006, but it remains to be seen if he will indeed get the race seat at BMW next to Heidfeld.

Mario Theissen "We need drivers who can push us forward, who can develop a car. I do not wish to talk about names. It has to be our target that we can start working at the end of November with the two drivers who shall be in the cars in 2006."

Villeneuve has started slowly this season but shown steady signs of improvement. Wether the 34-year-old was able to show enough remains to be seen but BMW are already hinting that they may use a shoot out format to finalise their driver choice.

Mario Theissen added: "If we cannot achieve that, we might even do a driver comparison program in November."
