This was an important season for me - Kubica

Right up until the penultimate race of the 2008 Formula One season, Robert Kubica was one of a trio of drivers still in with a chance of winning the World Championship. Although he will no longer play a role in the fight for the Drivers' Championship, the BMW Sauber F1 Team driver can look back on a magnificent season, and is still looking forward to the season finale: the Brazilian Grand Prix in Interlagos.

"It goes without saying that this Grand Prix is very important for me, as I am still fighting for third place in the championship," says Kubica. "I think it would be a great reward for a wonderful season. At the start of the year we were pretty strong, and could mix it up with McLaren and Ferrari."

Podium finishes at the first race of the season in Australia, Malaysia, Bahrain and Monaco were the reward for the BMW Sauber F1 Team driver. Then came the biggest highlight in the history of the team from Munich and Hinwil: the one-two at the "Circuit Gilles Villeneuve". This saw the team achieve their internal goal for the season. Robert even led the Drivers' Championship after the seventh race of the year.

"That is a great feeling, of course, and really shows that we have what it takes," says the Pole, looking back at the Canadian Grand Prix. "This year was very important for me, especially as the previous year was not such a great one. This season has shown how much I had to fight last year, and what potential I have as a driver."
