Red Bull Racing have revealed their new RB13 in an online clip today, showing a very elegant car that the team hopes will challenge the triple world champion cars from Mercedes AMG F1. Another solid aero platform and further improvements from Renault should indeed get them somewhat closer.
"It feels like we are building momentum," Team principal Christian Horner said.
"There is a feeling of real optimism within the team that if we can nudge a bit closer on the engine - chassis-wise we are hoping to come up with a good car to give our guys the tools to fight Mercedes.
"We've been quite good with regulation changes before, but nothing can be taken for granted. Mercedes will be the favourites, but if we can narrow that gap down and put them under a bit of pressure it would be great for everyone."
Technically, the devil looks to be in the detail, even though it is quite apparent that Red Bull have opted not to reveal too much at launch time. The barge board area for instance looks surprisingly simple, but at the front, the nose cone does have some intricate details, the purpose of which will become clear only when further images appear.
