The Arrow McLaren SP team has unveiled the livery with which two-time Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso will race at the 104th Indianapolis 500.

Fernando Alonso will once again participate in the Indy 500 race in 2020. The Spaniard took part in the famous race in 2017 for the first time when he drove for the McLaren Honda Andretti outfit. Despite being in the contention for the win, the Oviedo-born retired from the event with an engine problem.

After missing the 2018 race, the 38-year-old driver wanted to compete in the Indy 500 last year, but he failed to qualify himself for the race. For 2020, McLaren returned to the IndyCar series after joining forces with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.

Alonso is due to enter this year’s Indy 500 for the third time with the Arrow McLaren SP squad. The Spaniard has still some extra preparation time as the famous race was postponed from May 24 and is now set for Aug. 23.

The Arrow McLaren SP team has now revealed the livery that will feature Alonso’s car at IndyCar’s crown jewel race.

“I’m very happy to finally see the car which I will race in the Indianapolis 500. We had to wait longer than usual to release the livery, but that means that engines will be starting soon in Indianapolis," Alonso added.

Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, said: “I’m excited that we get to finally show the fans Fernando’s car that he will drive at the Indianapolis 500 this year. It looks awesome and I can’t wait to see it hit the track in August in Fernando’s hands.”
