McLaren promises "full review" after chassis issue for Norris at Zandvoort

After McLaren driver Lando Norris was forced to retire from race action at last Sunday's Dutch Grand Prix, McLaren team boss Andrea Stella has promised that the Woking-based outfit will carry out a review to avoid the possible repeat of the problem.
While Oscar's Piastri scored his sixth victory of the season, his team-mate Lando Norris endured a shocking result at last Sunday's Dutch Grand Prix despite his impressive performance.
The Briton lost out to a soft-shod Max Verstappen off the line, but he managed to fight back when the Red Bull started to struggle for grip.
Norris then was eager to hunt down his team mate, but Piastri looked to control proceedings.
However, the second-place finish would still have been a strong result in the championship, but the Briton unexpectedly encountered a technical issue that forced him to pull hit over with smoke billowing from his car to record his second DNF of the season.
Offering a review of his race around the dunes of Zandvoort, Norris added: "It's a shame to have ended the race like that today, but it was out of my control and there's nothing I could have done differently. I was having a good race until that point.
"To have been that close to the car ahead throughout the race isn't easy at Zandvoort, so I'm pleased with my performance. My focus switches straight to Monza."
Reflecting on Norris' race, McLaren team boss Andrea Stella added: "On he other side, we have the pain of Lando’s retirement towards the end of the race. Lando was in contention to put up a good battle at the front with a 1-2 finish looking very likely.
"He can be proud of his performance this weekend and will come back stronger next weekend," added Stella.
Explaining the issue that forced Norris to park up his car in the later stages of the 72-lap race, Stella revealed that it was a chassis-related issue, rather than a technical issue with Mercedes power unit.
"Reliability has been a strong point at McLaren for a long time. We have had what looks like a technical reliability problem, which is always disappointing.
"The whole team will process this, try to take the learning, reviewing the problem, fixing it, and making sure that this is not a factor anymore for the future, not only for the remainder of the championship, even if, obviously, this is the main focus for the moment."
"We’ve identified an issue on the chassis side, and we will do a full review before we go racing again in Monza," the Italian said.
"This is the first technical problem for the team after a long run of faultless reliability," Stella concluded.
