Ferrari "is not consistent, but it is fast", claims Leclerc after the opening day at Monza

Having ended up second in both practce sessions on Friday, Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc claimed that his car is fast, but the Scuderia will need to find more consistency for the SF25 for the rest of the weekend.

Hot on the heels of their shock result at last Sunday's Dutch Grand Prix, Ferrari completed an encouraging day in front of their home crowd at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza.

Lewis Hamilton, who will serve a five-place grid penalty on Sunday for an installation lap indiscretion last weekend in Zandvoort, wound up topping the opening session from his team mate, the first time he has finished P1 in practice since Silverstone. His team-mate Charles Leclerc took second in FP1.

The Scuderia then went on to finish second and fifth in the second practice session as they continued to look good on the soft tyres on the lower fuel runs.

Speaking about his opening day at Monza, Leclerc admitted that while his car looked quick, it was not consistent enough which the Scuderia will need to adress before the action resumes in final practice.

"Our car was not the most consistent in low and high fuel runs today, but it was fast, which is better than the other way around. We have some work to do on our short runs to extract the best tomorrow, and to work on our consistency.

"I think it’s going to be a very tight qualifying as was the case last year at this track, for now, things have gone quite well and I think we will have the chance to put up a good fight tomorrow."

The Monegasque continued: "I'd rather be in this position than having a consistent car that's slow but we need to work a little bit on consistency.

"I think on the short runs we managed to extract more or less what there was in the car, however, for tomorrow we need to get that consistency and we are working on that."

"For now I think it's on the cards but I don't know how much Red Bull and McLaren have pushed just yet, I think they have more than what we have in the pocket. We still need to improve the car but if we do then I think there's a possibility," concluded Leclerc.
