We got the most out of the car - Kovalainen

Heikki Kovalainen, the Finnish Renault F1 Team driver, seemed quite satisfied with his qualifying... He is now looking forward the race! The youngster will start the Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul Park from 7th position on the grid.

Heikki, are you happy with your seventh place on the grid?

"I think I can truly say that we really got the most we could out of our car today. We’re not quite quick enough to be in a position to beat the first three teams in the championship. Seventh was the best we could hope for. My last lap was really good; there were no mistakes."

How did qualifying go?

"In P1 and P2 it was a question of qualifying for the Pole shoot-out without making any mistakes. We found out why things had gone wrong in Budapest. I pushed a bit too hard in P2, went wide and dirtied my tyres. I didn’t want to make the same mistake twice, and I wanted to make sure I qualified for P3. That was when I took risks and drove the car right to its limits. Everybody’s done a great job. The car’s balance was good and I can’t wait for the race to start."

What are you aiming for tomorrow?

"At least keep the same place, that’s the minimum. If one of the drivers in front makes a mistake, the aim will be to take advantage of it immediately. Above all, we’re going to try and hang on to the BMWs in the race."

Except for the 2 McLaren drivers, you’re the only one to have finished all the races...

"It’s a good thing as it proves that we’ve got bullet proof reliability; that’s one of our strong points. I hope we’ll soon start winning as many races as them!"
