New lubricant for Renault V10

Thanks to a close and long-term relationship between Renault and Elf, the oil company has developed a new oil that increases engine performance by lowering internal friction. At Silverstone, the debut of a new generation of lubricant saw a significant step forward. "This product allows us to reduce internal friction, and therefore to gain more power," explained Elf's F1 programme manager Olivier Dautrebande. "In power terms, we made a gain of 1%, while also limiting the wear of moving mechanical parts. Reliability has not suffered, as we saw no engine failures during the British Grand Prix."
