Due to the extent of the modifications made on the Ferrari 412T1, the cars running as of the French GP of 1994 were named 412T1B, with John Barnard at the time saying the team's aim was mainly to resolve the balance issues with the chassis.

At the time of the French GP, Ferrari used the Type 41 engine only for qualifying, but started using it in races as of the German GP, 2 events later. The Type 43 engine was a complete new design from scratch, done by Claudio Lombardi and Osamu Goto, featuring a wider V-angle between the cylinder banks and a shorter stroke. It proved to be a major step forward, and enabled Gerhard Berger to record the team's only victory that season at the power favouring Hockenheimring during the German Grand Prix.
