Cadillac MAC-26

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Looks like the Ferrari PU is also using a water to air intercooler like the Mercedes. That turbo doesn't look particuarly small either.

I don't see the hot side of turbo in the image, too deep down inside the front end of gearbox case / rear structural monocoque.

Likely that the hot side would be the reduced diameter to gain response from lower gas flowing off boost.

As far as normal in layout (possibly different here) that's the gearbox input shaft route in centre bore at lower part of image.

The clutch would ordinarily be (toward camera position) in front of that in this image, generally located on rear of crankshaft.

You can see the bottom end of torsion bars (the silver coloured cross link about midway up in image, with red blue hose passing in front of it) linked by that silver aluminium cross link to control load and distortion when loaded, with those two bore in that link being the lowest part of the torsion bars travelling up into the shadow area at top of casing.
Those two torsion bars linked externally outside top of case to the "bellcranks" ultimately connected to the pushrod inner ends.

A good image showing how the "gearbox" with gears for transmission are inside a cassette that resides inside the the rear monocoque structure of the car. In the past , that assembly was one unitary casing, but this era has them separated but the gearbox itself located "concentric" within the outer case that can often be viewed with covers off during pit work.

Cadillac really does have a lot of cool ideas. That mirror stay is incredibly cool. I haven’t seen any other team manage to get such a long strake out of it, and especially not one placed along the slope of the sidepod to reduce vortex formation.

More likely to induce a vortex to keep the flow attached around the shoulder of the sidepod.

Cool to see wool tuft aero testing. Old fashioned tech in a modern setting. :D
