Red Bull RB8 Renault (pre-launch speculation)

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Nobody other than Red Bull and the FIA would know for sure.

Vettel's Boss says new car not as ugly as Ferrari but will have a small kink unlike McLaren.
It means it has front push rod suspension

I think if Newey wanted front pull rods he would've done so a long while back. But I don't see anything about suspension in the article? Of course that's based on me reading the google translated version.

I think you mean speakers as sourced by our lovely csponton, who quoted.... well, himself.

At least we know the cars don't have gastric problems to the level they had last year - they were passing gas everywhere!

The rules change, different compromises will be chosen. So history is no real guide to what any of the teams will do this year if you want 100% certainty.

That said I think today we'll be looking at an RB7 with a Caterham like nose. Possibly front pull-rod but more likely not.

I know what you mean - I make my living off innovation too. But my point was that I don't think the regs have changed enough to necessitate a change. I'm thinking the cost-benefit tradeoff he would get in 2009-2011 would still not be substantially changed to the point of necessitating a new solution.

I agree. The ferrari is going for a pull rod to change the weight distribution so that they can put heat on to tire early.
It will also help them in qualifying at the cost of a higher tire degradation.
They may have come to the conclusion that a fast car for qualifying and starting of the race is more important than a car conserving the tires.
