Renault Sport F1 R.S. 18

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It's also possible they have decided to go down the route that Williams and Red Bull did last year and keep the barge board area basic. I don't know why you would... But it's possible.

Everyone was saying RBR and Williams would 100% have more complex barge boards by Melbourne in 17, but we all saw that they chose not to.

If they did make this move, it would be a pretty decent mistake I would guess considering that the 2 cars that had less complex barge boards at season start also had much more complex structures by season's end.

Wow, very disappointing, seems reminiscent of the RB13, under-developed and underperforming as a result of wind tunnel correlation issues.

Even the drivers dont look very excited! #-o

that's because of the giant black windcatching flat plate that blocks all airflow through the rear wing

Might be an S-duct inlet. Similar location and shape to recent years' Red Bulls:

The location reminds me of McLaren's in previous seasons.

But the shape reminds me of the Merc approach:

Didn't they ban shark fins? Or is that still within regulation?

Glad to see Aerocat is still part of the package.

Yeah multple inlets for the S-duct, like STR for example.
Enstone's cars use that banana shaped tea-tray support since 2012. And STR too joins its "dolfin nose"/laser sensors box to the tea tray support since a couple of seasons.
Airbox bodywork
(but what are those black bumps neear the Bell&Ross sricker on the sidepods upper lip?)
Edit: just paint and reflections

There is something new under that roll hoop intake. Variable air intake manifold?
Different cooling configuration this year.
Seems that main strength of R.S.18 is under skin.
