What are those little yellowish blocks on the floor, in the left half of the image (5 per side)? Ballast? Weights to dampen/avoid vibration resonances?

(the resolution of the image I am getting is not good enough to be more precise in the question).

Those tubes that are coming up from the floor through to the neutral section, below where the gearbox housing would sit are those being fed from below the floor or from the flow from the undercut of the sidepods..?

Interesting question, but I don't think those are "tubes", just parts of the floor that come up to guide air. I don't think they are allowed to have any "holes" in the floor in that area that would allow air to go from under the floor to on top.

This seems like the biggest change/update on the car. Is it something track specific where they may revert back to the previous diffuser in Hungary or afterwards? Was this change made for more rear downforce or less drag? Or maybe a more stable platform? Does any other team run a similar diffuser already? Is it a copy or an innovation?

The rear heat exhaust tunnels (bodywork around the rear suspension) seem to be even tighter than before!

It's bodywork that guides air below the gearbox. No holes bring air from below the floor.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

So Mercedes basically reverted to the older (2017-18?) RB-Ferrari spec diffuser

It's funny people joke about Mercedes being like the evil empire.

This year's car looks exactly like something imperial out of Star Wars. Especially Hamilton with the dark race helmet and black suit in that car has a bit of a Darth Vader feel about him!

I do not believe those are the only benefits. It doesn't make sense to have all that weight carrying all race long just to warm up tyres after the safety car.

Agreed. Why give up a 'massive weight advantage' for every lap of Quali and the race, just to make controlling front tyre heat a little easier? To be fair, it'll also provide some cooling options (remove scrub in a straight line) but...
