The top 5 are all within the margin of error. Very close but yea definitely a bit disappointed that ham let it go in the last couple corners. It would've been neck and neck with him and max
No fault on Lewis because he drove it how a Formula 1 car should be driven, unfortunately the issue is once again these really big and temperature sensitive Pirellis. Really, Formula 1 needs to get rid of the wheel covers, it's causing more problems than "help" in terms of performance.

Honestly, anyone from the McLarens, the Ferraris and Max could have finished on pole. All except one in that list made mistakes in their laps.
However, what I didn't expect was Russel to emerge P4. That was spectacular. It should hurt the ego of both HAM and LEC, that they are starting behind RUS, purely from their own mistakes (they only managed to match their Q2 laptimes in Q3)

That mercedes is always quick in the cold conditions. They were on pole last year. Conpared to last year they are slower. Race pace might be a problem for them

Lewis went in too hot in the last corners, he was leading until then. The Ferraris and McLarens had it in them but Max is the only one who made no error.

Literally not what we are about to find out. Nice try on the Hamilton hate, though.
If Hamilton wasn't in the Mercedes during the hybrid era his win total here (and in general) would be halved, if not reduced by more. But that wouldn't change the fact he is excellent around here and that one good or bad performance in a typically shambolic ferrari team doesn't mean much.
If my mother had balls she'd be my dad
Stirling Moss was a worse driver than Nico Rosberg, Jacques Villeneuve, Jody Scheckter, and Phil Hill. Martin Brundle? Worse than pastor maldonado

Watching Mclaren and Ferrari fight all weekend for pole and out of nowhere Max arrives and snatches them was like in a movie... I know what will happen tomorrow with Red Bull high tyre wear, but at least I am happy for today.

No he wasn't. He was quarter of a second down on Verstappen before T16, and despite all the mistakes, still lost only a bit more than half a tenth after exiting final corner onto pit straight. That shows how stupidly understeery the RB21 is in the slow corners.

Yeah you're correct. Max was up on everyone until those last corners and surprisingly everyone except Max made a pretty bad mistake in those last few corners and considering how tragic it was watching the Red Bull snailing through that section, it's almost shocking how pole didn't go to a McLaren or Ferrari.

Watching Max through T3 and T6 - the slow turns - it's like a wet Sao Paolo line he is taking through there - the car is nowhere near the apex as he has to take a wide line on entry to these corners because it refuses to rotate. If the likes of McLaren and Ferrari are going to overtake Max, it will be through the inside line in T3 and T6.

If we did get some rain tomorrow, any idea which cars would potentially be best set up for that?

Did I hear Max in his interview talking about Ferrari being very good in the corners but less on the straight - is that a Higher DF package or just a general car trait?

The Red Bull is the fastest car in the paddock so it's barely a surprise it can rake pole at the highest speed circuit on the calendar

I'd rather be Ferrari/McLaren in the corners. It's going to rain tomorrow and it will be cold, so we're going to have a green track. Red Bull has to hope the car can tough out any graining and keep its tyres in a good operating window. Can't see it being easy with the Monza wing. That said, it's not wise to count Max out.

Why isn’t it very cold for the race just like last year?

The issue is, that the drying track will just make a boring race. Everyone except McLaren will just overheat the tires. I hope for wet all race long.
