Now imagine how silly you'd look if Bottas or Hamilton got sick and were replaced by the fella you mentioned :^)

This is what new reports say
Ferrari: in Brazil Leclerc brings the 2020 engine to debut
Dont know if it is real
More publications are picking up the story now ... and if Ferrari has to take a new one why not take the next spec if it's ready...
Too bad we probably won't know for sure if it's the 2020 PU. Ferrari isn't really talkative about stuff like that.

No Toto Wolff in Brazil:

All the tables in the Mercedes garage just let out a huge collective sigh of relief.

I don't understand what sense it makes for their new spec to go in production a month before this. Ferrari and Mercedes work on 3 specs in a season and there hasn't been a spec 4. It makes sense to give all the time available before start of next season to continously work on Spec 1 2020, instead of getting distracted with spec 4.

I'm still going to miss seeing Toto this weekend, however! Who do you think will be running the show there in his absence?

Agreed. I'd bet my arm there'll be no "spec 4" or "2020 engine", just a normal new spec 3.

I don't know, while it's certainly not the final 2020 engine like the article proposes... It might contain a couple of things, planned for 2020, they got up and running in the bench.

Then again they can just keep those things wrapped because showing "how awesome" they'll be in 2020 has no real benefits.

Testing out a few bits and pieces for real world reliability might be sensible, but agree. They certainly don't want to fully just tip their hand for next year. Probably just a spec 3 with a few tweaks or improvements.

Mattia Binotto Team Principal

Charles will get a new Power Unit there, as his was damaged on Saturday in Austin, which meant he had to use a previously used and less powerful version for the rest of the weekend.
Fitting a new PU means taking a grid-penalty in Sao Paulo, but we should be back to our normal performance level and show some fighting spirit to finish the season on a high note.
That will be important in order to confirm we are making progress with our car and to take some of that momentum into the winter work. I know that our drivers and the whole team are fully focused on that."

So will it be just the ICE or whole PU ? If its an identical engine, then surely just the ICE ?

you'd think so, yeah. On the other hand, +10 or +20 shouldn't be a massive difference on a track like Interlagos, so maybe they'll just change the full unit anyway

Could be the 2020 prototype engine if rumours are to be believed.
