The Ford deal was a name for money deal with a pretty minor engine development consulting partnership, most of the development was in house and they did way better than Audi.

Fully agree with you there. Audi is doing terribly imo. Their PU is not powerful enough, neither reliable

If Binotto was very satisfied with the chassis, the situation changes completely when it comes to the power unit. Audi had to build the 2026 engine and its electrical part from scratch, facing one of the most complex technical revolutions in the premier class. The team principal did not hide the difficulties at the time: "If we measure the gap to the top teams, probably the biggest gap concerns the power unit: performance, control and drivability". The main problem mainly concerns the management of electricity deriving from the MGU-K alone, which became central after the elimination of the MGU-H. A situation that is putting several manufacturers in difficulty, but which Audi is paying particularly. "To improve the engine we will have to modify the hardware. We think that reaching the correct level by 2027 is not realistic, while 2028 could be the right time."

Read today that Binotto claims Audi have the 4th best chassis… out of the current top 4 teams who does he think they have a better chassis than??

RBPT is the product of a top level championship F1 team in it's pomp, with every possible resource and some of the best people from Honda and others. I struggle to conceive how anyone could expect Audi to be better than them, at least initially. Honestly Audi have had some impressive moments, though the overall rating is not satisfactory. There is potential.
