I re-watched hamilton overtake from Max's onboard and hamilton dirty move was worse than I initially believed. Glad he didn't manage to ruin Max as he did in 2024. Moving under braking was basically the same but this time hamilton missed his left rear tyre. Good.
Watched it from Verstappens onboard, and Hamilton definitely moved under braking. Dirty.

Hannah Schmitz now is and forever will be the most overrated head strategist of all time. Completely crazy calls tine after time again.
Would be a miracle if Max somehow saves the day.
This didn't age well.

Got a link for that? I couldn't watch the race.

Hats off to Max today. An epic race. The pass on Lewis was exceptional. Dropped my jaw when I saw him going for it. Really great stuff to see at a time like this. =D>

Everyone other than Max will not be called out for moving under braking.

It was an opportunistic move, caught Hamilton sleeping (I'm sure he would've blocked had he seen it coming 1/4 a second before he noticed it) and required tremendous bravery under braking.
F1tv commentators were effusing praise on the move, but Sky F1 ensured that the praise was minimal and that it was because Hamilton had used up his battery in T12-T13 to get past Lawson (which has nothing to do with how late Hamilton brakes for T1 and what line he uses doing so).
The difference between the two drivers - Hamilton was faster in the first stint with offset tyres, but still wasn't brave enough to 'make a move' - he was hoping on pressuring Max into a mistake and waited, only for it to never happen. Max, ont he other hand, he got one opportunity, and he was brave enough to 'go for it'.
This race is getting a lot of flak in the race thread - 'boring' / 'Monaco without walls' etc etc. I thought it was a brilliant race, there was a point when the entire lead group was in a train, behind Hadjar for a lap and a half. This idea that 'more overtakes = better racing' is naive, and for some of us who were watching, it was the best race of the year - no safety cars to nullify built up gaps (just a small VSC), and hence no 'lucky break' for anyone. It was pure racing. Apart from P1, no position was guaranteed until the last 3-4 laps.

What a move that was. Overtake of the season!

We actually chatted in the discord that up until about the VSC, there was only 2 overtakes in the top 6. And one of them was piastri on Norris at the start. The other being max on Lewis.
Mess with the Bull - you get the horns.

Overtake of the season? Wow, that's some claim - and somewhat sad if it proves to be true. Overtaking a bloke who is slower than you because he had to use up energy before the straight getting by a back marker whilst you had full power for more of the straight is basically a DRS overtake from a few years ago. The main thing on Sunday is that Max didn't lock up.

I would say that some of the moves we've seen with drivers going around the outside and keeping it on track are more impressive than the DRS-alike T1 overtake.

And as for the "he moved under braking" moan, I don't understand how Max can say that stuff with a straight face - he's the king of moving under braking!
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

That was no deployment move, Hamilton got done in the braking zone from miles back, in a car with similar performance. I’ll take that over cruising around the outside of a car you are much faster than.

Ain't no driver on this grid or any other grid pulling this overtake off, only Max Verstappen.
I think Hamilton's overtakes on the outside were rather excellent as well.

Atleast the macarena wing didn't fail today. I think he would have quit RBR on the spot.
Days like today if anything should reinforce his desire to find an exit, if there’s any. What did the team do for him today? Stopped a lap after Hamilton, when even Krafitz could know he did an undercut already or left him make a 30 laps stint on a used soft?
He only got second, because he wasn't erroneously called into the pits like Hamilton.
Red Bull made better decisions than those around them.

It was a good, opportunistic, instinctive (rather than cerebral) overtake. Half of the reason was that Hamilton was sleeping and late to become aware, such that even after moving under braking, couldn't move quickly enough to block and deny. I wouldn't call it 'overtake of the season' ; just a really good one.
However, to me, what stood out w.r.t Verstappen's driving was how,
- he was able to keep Hamilton at bay (despite having a slower tyre and slower car) for the entire first stint
- he took used softs (that had done a quali run) and made them last a 27 lap stint in the end. Without bleeding time. It was masterclass in tyre management.
.. in a fundamentally unbalanced car that was oversteery and had to be driven through 'understeery lines' (wide entry and exit covering more distance) through corners like T1, T2, T13, T14 etc inorder to not allow it to snap. With Hamilton in the Ferrari close behind in the first two stints, it was glaring, the different lines and how Ferrari could take tighter lines through all corners without fear of rear instability. The RB22 was setup like a kicking donkey for Budapest.
