Average speed and guts

Post

Would any modern driver dare to make over 240 km/h average speed at Monza in a bucket like this one?

Average of 269 km/h from 2005 compared to 242.615 km/h from 1971 average of Peter Gethin in one of those buckets seams like a joke when it matters guts.

We'll never know, quite possibly…

BTW, recently I read about wet qualifying for 1979 British GP. The rain poured constantly from early morning till evening so all drivers drove on equally wet circuit but... BUT Gilles got pole driving 11 s (ELEVEN seconds) faster than second that was his teammate Jody Scheckter also in Ferrari!

Off topic, had any of you tried to push an old, beat up car beyond its limits. I drove (on several ocasions) a 16-year old Toyota with 4 cylinders in its 2.0L engine, at an unbelievable 185km/h (+/- 2km/h).
