Yes, I forgot to rule out the odd year 2005. In 2006, I don't think tire wear would be such a big issue because of the pit stops. Certainly, if you had to make the tires last a race distance you wouldn't want to have toe-in under braking.
I know for my road car, the toe-in will absolutely destroy the tires wear rating.
