The Toyota hybrid transmission is simply a gearbox with three input/output shafts - ie it is a differential or
"power splitting" device. The torque ratio between any two shafts is fixed, therefore it is not a CVT.
The angular velocity relationship between any two shafts can vary but only to the extent that the angular velocity of the third shaft is varied. The angular velocity relationship of the three shafts does not vary in operation.
