Interchangeable Combustion chamber ????

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Interchangeable Combustion chamber ????

Post

Hello and excuse my bad english.

There is a friend of mine that knows some folks from RenaultF1, and he affirmed the following :

There are some cylinder heads where you can swap the combustion chamber....
As he says, the guides and all stay on the head, just the combustion chamber and part of the ports come off and can be swapped.... he says he isnt allowed to talk bout it !!

Is it true ? If yes has anyone figured it oit or have pictures ???

Thanks

Sounds like cilinder liners, but ofcourse not allowed to interchange them. The engine blocks are sealed and tagged bij the FIA.

Maybe he is referring to the new pre-combustion chamber. If in fact they are running one now.

I saw some drawings that the pre-combustion chamber is in modular part together with the spark plug and the injector. So yes, in theory you could screw it out if the cylinder head like a big spark plug.
