The front and rear tyres have different dimensions, but they have all to be made from one and the same single rubber compound. That is probably what you meant. To be even more pedantic you should put the harder compound on opposite corners. In a predominantly left handed circuit you would have hard tires on the right front and left rear. On an oval track this has obvious advantages.
