Vettel's at Fiorano testing the 2017 tyres (sizes and compounds). Hopefully we'll get some good pictures later.

The front seriously looks like a huge solid cement block, maybe they will need some seriously complex front wings to divert the air over these tires!!!!!!

What is with the twisted rear wing? Is that just to simulate the increased downforce of next year?

It's to accommodate those big-ass rear tires. :D

EDIT: Actually, it's a larger wing.

Yes! And so far, it looks like the tires are pretty consistent, the most important thing with a single mandatory supplier.

Part of me wants a new tire war, the lap times, speed and different strategies would be wonderful. But the other part thinks, no team wants to be stuck with the second fastest tire contract after investing millions...
Speaking of tire wars, sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere already, how about having different manufacturers, with the teams getting freedom to choose whatever they feel best fit tire on a raceday? Ex: Both Pirelli and Michelin would supply everybody on the grid. Ferrari can take Pirelli for what suits their car; Mercedes could go Michelin; FI could do bridgestone. Win-win for all...

Many times, depending on how the overall package is put in, a car could do well in one compound from one manufacturer but be harsh on other manufacturer's tire. So, give them all and let the teams choose what fits them. Manufacturers get tire war to provide the best so that their tire gets chosen ahead of the other manufacturer. Win-win for everyone...
Finishing second is being the first one of losers....

Is that a floor-skirt we're seeing? Interesting.

Is it me or the rear wing is higher than the 2017 spec?

It is a 2015 Car tweaked for the DF levels expected for 2017. And these Cars are designed for the higher RW. So the easiest Route is to just make it wider.

If it is, probably to simulate a bigger diffuser.
It looks like they try to get the right/2017 load levels on especially the rear tires.

For those of you who ask about wings and floor aerodynamics, the regulations stipulate that wings and floor to 2017 dimensions are not allowed. In compensation full ground effects, side skirts and multi elements wings are allowed.

According to http://it.motorsport.com/f1/news/record ... he-804567/ Vettel already broke the one minute barrier for lap time (there is no mention by how much). I think the track record is 55.999s , so who knows, maybe we will see a new track record with the real 2017 car. :D
