Revised front wing (Monza)

Additional twisted vertical fin on the outside of the endplate as seen in the Spa is missing.

CHASSIS USAGE - BELGIUM

Button used the chassis No 2
Barrichello used the chassis No 3

BARRICHELLO'S ENGINE LEAK IN BELGIUM
Image

There was an oil leak problem for Barrichello during the last 5 laps in race . Luckily for him the engine survived the leak and permitted him to gain some points . After the race finish Barrichello ‘s engine cover caught fire while entering back to the pits .

I love these "dirty" pics. They give you a chance to really think about the aero.

Thanks!

Rear wing - Monza

Rear wing for fastest track at Monza was mounted with a lower incidence angle to the main plane and flap.

Do you know guys something about their new system which should adjust the main plane and flap together (introduced at Spa)? I do not think that it is adjusted from the cockpit, I guess it just makes it easier for mechanics to quickly adjust it.

Where did you hear about that? And I'm surprised that at Monza they closed up the endplate flaps. I would think that would add lots of drag with no benefit? Ferrari did the same. Is it possible that the wing angles were so low and mounted so close to the top of the endplate that it didn't matter?

Could not find that forum post.. (as I dunno exactly where was that).. but there's a mention about it on the official web pages too: http://www.formula1.com/news/technical/ ... 8/693.html

As to closed endplates: I think it helps the air to penetrate better through the rear end and that it speeds up the airflow thus adding no drag. BMW had also no gills in Monza, Ferrari removed them in Spa already.

(BTW: My whole article about most noticable rear wings' adjustments in Monza could be found here: http://f1news.cz/technika/33142-promeny ... -na-monze/)

One thing I got confused about...

This new rear wing which allowed easy adjustability was introduced at Spa, with RedBull also doing the same.

At Monza, Brundle said it was an advantage because if it were to rain they could change the wing angle for the race. Is it not set to parc ferme rules? So the car has to remain as it is in qualifying?? I thought only such things as tyre pressures and front wing angles could be changed??

Fuel may be added to the cars (those eligible for the final period of qualifying may only replace what they used in that period), tyres changed and brakes bled in parc fermé. Minor front wing adjustments are also allowed, but little else. Teams cannot make significant alterations to the set-up of a car between qualifying and the race.

The only exception to this is when there is a "change in climatic conditions", for example a dry qualifying session followed by a wet race, or vice versa. In this case the FIA will give the teams permission to make further appropriate changes to their cars.

Should a car require an engine change between qualifying and the race, then the driver concerned will be required to start from the back of the grid. Modifications to other parts or suspension set-up will require the driver to start from the pit lane.

Thanx, BreezyRacer  I will try to keep posting some useful info in English here (unless I won't find any sponsor to translate it all in English :D )

the slots in the endplates are downforce creation devices which also happen to move the source of the rear-wing tip vortex downwards. the downforce that they produce is also quite drag-free. I would guess that Brawn were happy with their rear downforce levels and so they removed slots for italy, with monza being a low-downforce track.

That sounds rather counter intuitive. I would have thought that any drag free downforce would be used and that drag induced downforce would be removed.

no you are right and my last comment wasn't the right conclusion to be made. It turns out that a monza-spec rear wing does not offer the relatively high pressures to be bled through the endplate gills compared to the pressures found on something like a valencia spec wing. also, with the rear wing mainplane higher, there is not much space to practically fit the slots. horizontal slots are also less effective than angled slots due to the rotated lift vector and so they are even more impractical to fit into the available space.
