The biggest weapon that RBR has in it's arsenal, is Max. The moment they lose him, the team will sink like a stone in a pond. I have been watching F1 for years, and I have not seen a single driver who is 'on the limit' straightaway from the pits, whether it's practice session or Q1 or race (he is the guy posting the best time out of everyone's 'first push lap'). He is squeezing the hell out of the theoretical limit of the car, all the time. This has lulled the team into thinking 'X is the performance bar of the car' when it's supposed to be 0.95*X, like it's for all other teams. This is the reason the 2nd driver comes under pressure, Ricciardo couldn't handle it, neither could the others that followed him.

I mean, this is even more copium from what we heard, Australia may not even have been the best track for McLaren, and as of the TD, let's see first which impact will have and on which teams...I still remember all the noise about the TD18 at Singapore 2023 and how it had hampered Red Bull, just for Max to pull 6 tenths on everyone at Suzuka.

I'm just warning that in my opinion we should still keep our feet at ground and be very careful in trusting again Red Bull on development side, I'd just want to see some real signals other than usual Marko's copium.

I think RB21 should qualify as a 3-5 tenth upgrade on RB20

The rb21 upgrade relative to late-season rb20 has at least kept pace with other teams' winter development, no? And we know now why any upgrades prior to Baku 2024 failed.

I don't think anyone here expected red bull to be hit by td018. In the run-up to Singapore several other teams had shown signs of reinforcing components like beamwings and nose-wing junctions. And td018 wasn't pushed hard by red bull's rivals at the time, like this mini-DRS TD is being pushed by red bull.

It probably is typical Marko cope but maybe there is some essence of truth.

Probably I should have worded it : "The biggest weapon that RBR has in it's arsenal CURRENTLY, is Max.". They lost Newey, they lost top tech personnel, it's natural that the car suffers. Look what a difference Rob Marshall has made to McLaren. Max is the only 'ace' that they have left, in terms of 'key people'. The moment he too leaves, that will be downfall. That was the context that I was talking from.

Max ahead of Chinese GP: 'Learnt a lot'

Max Verstappen finished second in the season opener in Melbourne, Australia. The Dutch Oracle Red Bull Racing driver reflects: “It was good to kick off the season again and I enjoyed being back racing last week. The team learnt a lot and in the end I was pleased with P2, but there is still a lot we can improve on. The tyre degradation particularly impacted us in Melbourne, but we came away with a lot learnings and ways to improve.”
