Great recovery race for Charles. Both did well to extend their stints and really push hard at the end.

Didn't have the pace of Lando's McLaren or the Alpines but it worked out all the same. 40 points clear of McLaren!
If you are happy for this ferrari mediocre race, I am glad for ya. Still not capable to set up perfectly the car and little improovements. Not ready yet to match title contenders. Need at least one year more
I don't expect a car born out of the SF1000 to be great. So yes, I'm glad. P3 is the goal for this year and Ferrari looks to have capitalized.

Next year, I'm sure they are aiming for a championship. If races like these happen next year, then we can call it a disappointment.

Mattia Binotto:

"We never pushed the car to the limits, neither in the first, nor in the second stint. Others punctured, we know the limits of the car"
Interesting.

With Charles starting from 13th position the team could have considered an engine replacement to have a fresher unit in the last few races. Regarding this consideration, the team principal commented: “We considered it unnecessary to mount a new power unit with Leclerc. We introduced the latest specification with development on the hybrid part only a few races ago. Our engine is reliable and does not lose performance as the kilometers traveled increase. So there was no reason to change it. If we had done that, Charles would probably not have reached the eighth position. "

I believe Ferrari can match or even surpass mercs with engine performance next year. Reliability issues have plagued mercedes a lot this year, and they'll be looking out towards reliability gains more than performance gains.
Can't wait for 2022.

I don’t believe him.
Unless they had a near puncture in practise but other than that I don’t believe him
Just a fan's point of view

I don't see those reliability issues you speak of. Since Silverstone they've been able to run their engines harder than everyone else without any sort of failure when it counts. Can any other engine maker do that? I doubt

Bottas has used 6-7 engines at this point I think.

I do. Pirelli basically told teams not to go with the one stop and they did it anyway. The SF21 had pretty good race pace towards the end of the race, but they were clearly in tire management mode for most of the race. The Ferrari still eats its front tires so they couldn’t push if they wanted to finish.

Carlos specifically mentioned McLaren as one of those teams that possibly pushed too far.

On the onboards I watched Lando, Lewis, and Alonso go through the Turn 12-14 complex. Lando punctured his tire right after hitting the outside curb at turn 13. He was on the curbs constantly and pushing hard. Hamilton and Alonso avoided the curbs completely.

During the post race interview, Binotto said their target was one stop and they adjusted their race pace accordingly. They only allowed the drivers to push in the last 10 laps on hards only after they were convinced they would make it.

I'm surprised he can move that much. That's an old karting trick though (used to do that too). :D

Binotto : "We never really developed the current car […] Except for the power unit later on but the power unit, again that was a development in view of 2022, so all our efforts from the very start of the season has always been the 2022 car, we never compromised it."

Binotto: "It never came into our mind even to at some stage try to penalise 2022 at the benefit of 2021 [..] We knew that our main objective in 2021 was not third place but to try to improve in all the details as a team and third place has simply been an output of it."

I really hope all this effort and dedication into 2022 bears fruit especially on the engine side. Binotto himself has talked about 2022 a whole lot so the pressure and expectations are sky high

No clue how Ferrari should do this weekend. I expect them to be behind McLaren but who knows what's going to happen given the track characteristics.
