In last 2-3 GP weekends there has been more and more complaints from riders about how hard it is to follow behind a winged bike because it is very turbulent when you try to get out of the slip stream to try an overtake. Maybe Aprilia has done this so that FIM and/or Dorna decide that enough is enough and ban wings all together?

PS: Better look at the rear wing

At one stage in FP1 at Mugello the first three riders were covered by one thousandth of the second.
First two were exactly the same.
Hard to imagine on bikes.
Good on Espargaro, A for topping FP2 he is very consistent in the practices.
After qually does anyone care to bet a cup of coffee on the winner?
Its a little thing we have going amongst a few friends

Aleix doesn't surprise me anymore, he is showing consistency that won last two championships for Mir and Quartararo respectively. And even this year Quartararo obviously doesn't have the best bike, but while Ducati and Honda riders are dropping them every other race he is consistently geting points and leading the championship.

FP3 Mugello
Lots of crashes turning Martin, Bagnaia, Bastianini, Binder etc into mini michelin men courtesy of that fantastic innovation the airbag leathers.
There seems to be a distinct deficit now for the I4's with Fabio Q, Rins, Mir languishing.

Sounds like Marc will have a 4th arm surgery.

https://www.speedweek.com/motogp/news/1 ... ation.html

On Saturday morning, the rumor made the rounds in the Paddock of Mugello that Honda would report an amazing news in a press release today. The assumptions ranged from the announcement that Suzuki star Joan Mir had signed a contract with HRC for the Repsol Honda team until the end of 2024 to personnel changes affecting the driver staff of LCR-Honda, where the places of Alex Márquez and Taka Nakagami are at risk.

But Honda will announce today that Marc Márquez will have to undergo another operation. After his Jerez GP crash on 19 July 2020, the six-time MotoGP World Champion has already undergone three upper arm operations, as well as two bone transplants and an infection.

After the treatment in the clinic of Dr. Xavier Mir had turned out to be extremely lengthy and not particularly effective, Marc Márquez was also examined by Dr. Karl Golser in Innsbruck/Austria in November 2020 on the advice of Red Bull.

After that, Marc Márquez, in coordination with HRC, decided to undergo treatment and surgery by another team of doctors on 3 December 2020 at the "Hospital Ruber Internacional" in Madrid. It was the third upper arm surgery in four and a half months. This procedure lasted more than eight hours.

This final operation was performed by doctors Samuel Antuña, Ignacio Roger de Oña, Juan de Miguel, Aitor Ibarzabal and Andrea García Villanueva. The titanium plate used at the Clinica Dexeus in Barcelona was removed and replaced by a new one. In addition, there was a bone transplant from the pelvic crest to the upper arm to finally allow the debris fracture to heal better.

However, after Marc Márquez's recent complaints, the attending physicians have come to the conclusion that the humerus bone has not grown together at the ideal angle, which is why Marc suffers permanently from muscle and tendon complaints.

With the 59-time MotoGP winner not yet clinching a podium finish this year due to all his grievances and winning the title is a long way off, Marc and Honda management have now decided to have a fourth upper arm operation.

This procedure is to take place immediately after the Mugello GP. HRC wants to announce this news this Saturday, SPEEDWEEK.com was able to find out.

Marc has finished three sixths and one fourth in the last four races. No progress can be seen in the competitiveness of the Honda RC213V. And with the cancellation of the Finnish GP, Marc gains five weeks of recovery time after the Dutch-TT on 27 June, in which he does not miss a race.

The 29-year-old Spaniard has an HRC contract until the end of 2024 and could then possibly get back into the action in the last third of the 2022 season, test the 2023 prototype and finally prepare for next year's season in peace. Over the past four years, Marc's winter break has been affected by shoulder and upper arm surgery, as well as double vision following the cross-accident at the end of October 2021.

The state of health of the superstar has left much to be desired for weeks: Marc did not even bother to set up his bike himself again after a crash because of the complaints last time at Le Mans.

The Honda star has repeatedly stressed in recent weeks that he has to save energy and power on Friday, partly on Saturday morning and in the warm-up. He can only really exhaust himself in qualifying and in the race, more his physical condition does not allow.

In FP3 at Mugello on Saturday morning, Marc Márquez did not get beyond 21st place. Behind leader Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati): 1.184 seconds.

Yeah, between repeated concussive blows & general anaesthetic surgeries,
Marc's brain may be suffering/losing the 'winning edge', which isn't helped
by the usual Honda racing development rigmarole which tends to include
riders as an 'expendable' resource along the way...

On Saturday after qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix, Honda announced that Marquez would be travelling to Rochester, Minnesota to have a fourth operation on the right arm he badly broke back in 2020.

Marquez has suffered with the arm ever since he returned to action last April, with his problems only heightened by a radically overhauled 2022 Honda that has stopped him from riding him in his natural style.

The six-time MotoGP world champion has been evaluating this operation since last October, and after numerous consultations was given the green light to do so on Friday.

Marquez says he has been prompted into the surgery because “I’m not enjoying” riding right now and is “suffering a lot”, and having more surgery is the only way to get back to full fitness.

“Since I came back riding the bike, I feel a big limitation,” Marquez said on Saturday at Mugello.

“Even like this, I never give up, I keep pushing, keep working, doing what the doctors say.

“I ask the opinion from Dr Angel Cotorro that since last few months I start working with him to make this last chance to my arm.

“But I realise this season that I’m not enjoying, I’m just suffering a lot, a lot of pain, I don’t have power, I cannot ride like I want.

“I’m starting to injure the left shoulder because I’m pushing too much with the left arm.

“My performance is not bad but it’s not the one that I want, so together with the doctors, we evaluate, already a long time ago.

“In October when I had the first injury in my vision, I said to them ‘why don’t we consider to make something in that arm,’ but the bone was not fixed completely and they said the risk was too big and the first thing was myself, so I keep calm.

“Then I come back, I worked a lot during these four months, but I don’t see any improvement.

“Then I had another meeting with them after Jerez where we evaluate again everything and then they start to consider another operation.”
He added: “[It] looks like a nightmare but I believe soon I will come back. It will be hard, I know that, but I don’t know the time.

“But the moment to do is now because for them it’s no doubt, there is a problem, the rotation is too big and yeah, we will see if we can come back soon, but no rush.”

Marquez says he was referred to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota as his current doctors felt Dr. Joaquin Sanchez is “the best in the world”, and explained that 3D printing of his bone helped prompt his decision to have more surgery.

“You will not believe me maybe, but I had a phone call yesterday at 12 between practice because in the Mayo Clinic, Dr Joaquin Sanchez was printing my bones in 3D just to evaluate exactly the rotation,” Marquez explained.

“And at 12 o’clock he called me and said ‘[there’s] no doubt, come. The rotation is too big, I don’t know what you are doing but you are doing it, so come here and we will fix it.’

“Of course here will be an operation but they believe a lot in that. It was exactly like this.”
