Ferrari SF23

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It may just be a test item for use on Friday only. Just because it is on the car currently doesn't mean it stays all weekend. Ferrari has notes they use Fridays for testing things anyway.

According to Formu1a.uno the new rear wings is more loaded

No doubt, we concurred the same here during Bahrain testing :) What organic was saying relates to specific drag level of the wing, which might be too high in Jeddah. On the other hand, SF-23 is very low drag and they can easily spare 1-2kmh of top speed for more downforce, they were already faster than RB19 in Bahrain in all conditions.

Will be interesting to see what they choose for FP3, that should be a definitive indication of Q+R choice.
RB had lower speed in Bahrain due to higher DF rearwing only, and that not that much. Don't live in illusion that Ferrari finaly have something on them. There were instances last year where Ferrari already had higher top speed even last year also due to lower configuration, and remember where that took them - the same place as in Bahrain 2 weeks ago.

One question, the single pilon RW has more DW because of the deeper main plain in respect to double pilon version?
Thank You.
In this case, yes. I try to always point out that different aerofoils have different performance and L/D ratio, however in Ferrari's case I think it's quite clear that the aerofoil is basically the same along the span. The endplates are exactly the same for both wings also, so that very much cements the whole thing :)

Everyone is removing downforce, Ferrari is(considering) adding... this wing MUST move the needle in terms of drag/downforce ratio.
Otherwise, very odd choice lol.
No matter the design, RW is not too good on efficiency - especially now that endplates are open on top which leads to even worse L/D ratio. So if you add downforce and drag with RW, you'll surely lower the L/D of the whole car. However, we've seen the reports of Italian media that Ferrari had to run the car lower to make up some lost downforce, so they were compromised on aero in Bahrain no doubt. Maybe they'll want to trade some top speed for more liberty in aero and suspension setup...
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

very wavy. Looks like less backed off in the outer section of the uppermost flap (edit - the flaps seem to be the same from another photo below in the thread) , and also they have the overhang/disconnect at the endplates (like the merc one of last season) for extra outwash

Would be nice to see it from the top as the biggest difference between RBR and Ferrari on wings was the size of the planform.

Hopefully the front wing is not a rush job and they have done enough testing. We all saw what happened to the ECU when they replaced it in a rush on the morning of the race. They should get spares as many drivers touch barriers at Jeddah.

Only difference I see is the FWEP cutouts. Would need a top view to judge the planform

Flaps do look the same size and shape, no increase in surface that i can tell.

This was last race. Endplates have no cutouts:

Based on the pictures in the link from Bahrain. the wing looks the same. Those cutouts are visible only from certain angles (mainly from the front)
