What would either Sainz or Merc stand to lose by this? Best option for both sides.
A year contract with an open 2 years available if Merc feel the same as I am leaning more and more that Antonell is not going to be the wunderkind after all.
If Antonelli does turn out to be what was expected, a nice cash sum for either him or Sainz to sit out a season, or I'm sure a lower team would like his services for a year while Merc decide, and Sainz has a run up to consider the Audi drive knowing a lot more about it.
Looks a no brainer for both to me
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

Will the car be less garbage in China?
Have the team learned more from the temperature swings issue they discovered recently?
If Alonso and Yuki had better teammates, Mercedes would be 6th in the Championship.
For Sure!!

Without upgrades, I don't think much will change. No experimental setup is going to unlock half a second in this car.

They realized they need move up the grid and not back.

Why are Mercedes only doing hard tyre running? Is that the best race tyre? They don't have any idea about balance on the soft or medium....are we going to get another 'experiment ' excuse this weekend?

I'd love to have your enthusiasm but both cars did seem more stable and drivable in the high-speed sections...albeit only running on Hard tyres...

I'm holding out hope that a few small tweaks will result in a decent car. I personally think Merc is a few small adjustments away from being significantly better.

Also it was a little facetious on my part, but I'm a little delusional as well.

Great job by LH, although in dry conditions the car is nowhere. Talking of nowhere, poor day for GR.

This P2 looks like the unexpected highlight of what looks like being another poor weekend, unless it continues to be wet.
