Was Mercedes fastest car on straightline in Canada with open DRS in qualifying?

People said he was making excuses, He admits he was the problem this weekend even if they had issues while also saying he just needs to sort his head out and somehow thats still not good enough.
I don't know why it is necessary for Lewis to prove anything to anyone. He is leaving and it hardly matters if he is ahead or behind George. He shouldn't lose his mind over the reason for finishing behind George as it could only influence the thoughts of sabotage.

However, Lewis's remarks, regardless of his intentions, are fueling intense reactions from his devoted fans on social media. I came across a tweet from a journalist stating that Mercedes' PR team has instructed the Mercedes Twitter admin to unfollow Lewis fan accounts due to the escalating aggression and abuse. Thankfully, this platform is closely moderated, maintaining a level of respect in discussions. If Lewis refrains from justifying his position behind George, the situation could potentially improve significantly.
Journalists ask questions he answers. Other drivers have been moaning about their car bouncing like a gokart, which is an excuse just the same. Sainz and Charles blame management which are excuses too. There are excuses up and down the pitlane, but for some reason Lewis' words carry more weight and intrigue. It is what it is.
I see the fan response on social media. If they could burn down the page they would.
Lewis does not have control over that. The team just need to accept that those same fans come with the merchandise sales and the views. So they have to suck it up until 2025.
And again, Lewis is not justifying anything, he is just talking facts. Russel always justifies why he didn't win or catch a podium almost every race. It's the same. They're just answering the journalists.
For Sure!!

HAM was basically right under PIA gearbox & banged out a fastest lap on H, dirty-air be damned. Both RUS & HAM then tried again on the last lap, all whilst chasing & got into the 14s - hundredths away from each other. The car had serious pace.

I don’t often agree, but TheRace said it was the 1st time in the ground-floor era the pilots let the car down & not vice versa. I’m inclined to agree

Mercs had DRS + fresh tyres so it's not surprising they were much faster than a car on older tyres without drs. If anyone but the Merc set the fastest lap in that situation it would be confusing

Singapore 2023 was also drivers letting the car down. They should have won. There are even others which were more marginal, it is not the first time.

Mexico '22 (could've both been ahead of RB in quali and race), Austria '22 (both crashed in quali after setting purple sectors), Singapore '22, Qatar '23 (fastest car), Singapore '23

Agreed, but delivering whilst tucked up behind competitors is very promising.

You can’t pass in Singa & they weren’t in the running for pole. That’s a poor example IMO

They were absolutely in the running for pole. Russell was half a tenth behind.

Only because of a tyre delta, hardly counts

No, I’d still discount it because Rb had a mare that wkend. I would say (trying my best to interprete what they said on the pod) is that their yardstick is in all sessions and removing ‘fluke’ elements. So without any excuses

And a nice green track which the Mercs enjoy

Last lap they get the freedom to completely drain the battery, so I dont think we should read too much into the 1:14.xx
