Why you can't compare Fangio to today

Post

THE REASON BEING IS THE CARS THAT EACH OF THESE DRIVERS HAD OR HAVE TO WORK WITH. fANGIO'S CAR IS LIKE A WW1 BI-PLANE COMPARED TO THE CONCORD. SO WITH THAT SIMPLE FACT, WE DON'T KNOW IF FANGIO COULD EVEN DRIVE A MODERN DAY F1 CAR AS WELL AS HE DID HIS OWN. I THINK IT TAKES ALOT MORE FROM A DRIVER TO DRIVE A MODERN DAY F1 CAR THAN ONE FROM FANGIO'S ERA. BUT TO BE AS DOMINANT A DRIVER AS MICHAEL IN TODAY'S DAY AND AGE IS WITHOUT COMPARE.

EDIT: yeah yeah yeah no caps!!

actually we don't even need to compare them.it just a history.we don't live in history,we create history.in terms of f1 driver, just concentrate on existing era.in this era..well..only one man has ever win 6 championship.

Early era F1 cars, (Fangio's Era) were slower, had 1/3 the power,
and poor handling compared to today's modern cars. The drivers in
Fangio's era were generally more busy at the wheel, making
constant corrections of an an ill-handling bucket of bolts.
Often times, a driver in the early era of F1 might have to climb
from his cockpit, run back to the pitlane, grab a part for his
damaged or ill-running car, and help repair that car out on the
track along with his mechanics.

In comaprison, today's F1 cars handle 10 times better, have
electronic "aides" to help the driver maintain control of their
more powerful and performance envelope capable
machinery.

But who/what makes a more skillful driver?

In Fangio's era it was mostly about basic human twitch skills and
just having a "feel" for driving and correcting the car.
Not to mention the relatively dangerous and sometimes outright
maniacal courses the drivers raced on back in the early days.

In the modern era, an F1 driver has to have not only twitch skills,
but a more technical understanding of the car, and with the
increased capabilities of the car as far as G-Forces and the strains
placed on a driver's body and mind, outright speed at which
things, both good and bad happen, has to be in better overall physical
condition to cope with these things.

It's not really an argument as there really is nothing to argue.

The older drivers had to rely more on basic driving skills, whereas
the modern pilot has that,...plus alot more he has to cope with,
if you just HAVE to break it down into a comparison.

Personally, I would think the top drivers of all eras of Formula 1
had to have great skill. And to be a great driver and to win WDC's,
had to have something that all eras, and that all sports
and competition in general demand.

The will, desire and talents to win.

Other than winning...there really is nothing to compare or argue about.
IMHO.

Well that is true....i also have heard that the older cars were harder to drive.....

On thing I think is.....like damon said Schummy is only better then him if he wins the championship at 36.....I know that Schummy is better then Damon (in spite the fact that I'm a Damon Hill fan)....I don't know who old Fangio was when he won the championship for the last time....but if Schumacher almost breakes his neck (like fangio did) and returns to racing....and wins the championship at the same age or older then Fangio won his last championship.....well I might agree that he has the same size of balls Fangio had.
