Or even 2011 for that matter. Would be interesting to see how much closer they can possibly get regarding lap times after the loss of EBD.
Grand prix has different track layout, to compare i think you should look at last year test times. Raikonnen did 1.22.030 on the last day. So there are really pushing hard i think.

2012 fastest lap by hamilton (DSQ from quali) = 1:21.707 (drs, kers, coanda)
2011 pole = 1:20.981 (drs, kers, EBD + off trothle EBD)
2010 pole = 1:19.995 (DD + ebd for RB)

2011 catalunya test 01:21.268 MSC.
2012 catalunya test 01:22:030 RAI.

Sure. I was just looking at what the time decay from the first to the second flying lap.

Code: Select all

Merc 1.6s (1.22.6)
Ferrari 1.0s (1.22.9)
RBR 0.8s (1.22.9)
Lotus 0.6s (1.22.6)
The lotus looks a bit better, at least when averaging over the first two fliying laps.

They both go through the chicane in the last sector, so identical layouts for race and testing.

given the fact that last year they did a 1:23:005 in low-fuel Q3 with softs (or was it supersofts?) and DRS all around the track, this time on mediums in testing with an unknown fuel-load (and hopefully using the DRS only in the designated place) is an improvement.

Anyone knows his tyre choice for last stint? He did suffer masive tyre degradation. Started with his fastest lap, then droped to 1:30s after 9 laps.

Last year in Q3 they used Softs, wich are this year medium. So we somehow can remove the tyres as a factor, for comparising the pace. But In Q3 the car is with min amount of fuel, today the car has fuel for min. 5 - 7 or maybe 10 laps. And (maybe the biggest difference) last year they use DRS on every straight, today only on the start-finish.
