@Damager,

You are mixing Barcelona test day 1 with Jerez test day 1.
On the first day of 2015 testing, Alonso did only 6 laps

Rosberg - 157 laps
Ericsson - 73 laps
Bottas - 73 laps
Vettel - 60 laps
Sainz - 46 laps
Ricciardo - 35 laps
Alonso - 6 laps

Initial impressions of the new Ferrari from trackside are quite positive. Vettel was on the medium tyre and not exactly going all out, but the car looked fast, stable and transitioned well from turn 2 to the entry of turn 3 with Vettel able to take a nice tight line. The McLaren looks similar but a bit more on the edge through 2. The Toro Rosso also looks strong but with a wider angle of attack at 3. The Haas looked solid in the laps it did. Similar to the old Sauber but with more flexibility on the line Grosjean could take into 3. At least before the front wing fell off!

34 laps before lunch for McLaren is a really important start for them. Clearly the Ferrari and Mercedes have head starts with reliability and out of the box pace, but Hondas reliability and dats gathering is massive, so a positive start but with plenty more hurdles and learns to come.

Jenson is already faster than his quali lap at Barcelona last year (1:27.854) Light at the end of the tunnel?

I see a possibility of Honda running on medium performance mode to extract more information about chassis and engine. They will gradually turn up the power during course of this week as they unearth and resolve potential issues
