The STR14 have a long wheelbase, even with using the RB14 rear end. And they seem to do pretty well (giving is a midfield team) on the slow corners, maybe there is a few things to learn from STR that RBR can take a look
I didn't know that, thanks. Here are all the wheelbase and rake data.

2019 F1 CARS DIMENSIONS
Car ---Wheelbase [mm] --- Rake [°]
Red Bull RB15--- 3619 ---1.93
Haas VF-19--- 3621 ---1.59
Williams FW42--- 3644 ---1.68
McLaren MCL34--- 3648 ---1.67
Ferrari SF90 --- 3653 ---1.64
Racing Point RP19--- 3664 ---2.04
Renault R.S.19--- 3672 ---2.15
Toro Rosso STR15--- 3693 ---2.00
Alfa Romeo C38--- 3697 ---1.52
Mercedes F1 W10--- 3698 ---1.16
Cheers Thanks for that. Does appear if they can reduce the rake and use RBR front wing it should improve car performance. The merc is literally planted to the track surface. Would be interesting in Singapore or other bumpy tracks but still I think its the way to go.

The long wheelbase may have been incidental after having to use a gearbox designed for a Renault PU

STR (2018 RBR) rear end seems to be working better than 2019 RBR rear end so far, which is interesting. Of course, the 2018 version is fully developed, whereas the 2019 version is new, so that may explain some of it.

A month ago someone somewhere had posted that Albon is very quick in Monaco. Like, the track fits him and he always has had good results there
Midfield is super tight - a yellow flag in Q3/Q2 can be decisive

He looks really quick overall, but the conditions can change a lot for saturday, if he can keep his form we will see a good race if he can keep his position in the opening laps of the race.

This is the qualy of the year, so the minimum mistake can send you back several positions easily.

Albon is mega! And the car seems to be pretty good here on Mónaco. I'm starting to hope they can be 4th fastest here. And the pace was almost equal to Ferrari and Gasly. If Albon keeps doing that awesome job, maybe this weekend we could see him doing 4th or 5th with a bit of luck =D>

Already faster than time set by Pierre in quali using high fuel but same tyre compound. Fingers crossed for Alex, always had bad luck here after good quali in F2. Just goes to show his quality, being few hundreds of Gasly who has better track evo.

Nope, not incidental.

Why?
They using a Honda PU that sits further back, with a gearbox designed for a PU that sat further front. In other words the drive train is longer forcing a longer wheelbase.

Even if that were true, do you really think they decided on a wheelbase and thought the only way to do this is design a "long" gearbox.. seems extremely wasteful and just a point of needless weight.

The only comments I've seen on this is that the Honda PU does not have the turbo overhanging massively out the back, so it doesn't enter the gearcase where the Renault actually had the turbine entering the box. That aided reliability and temperature control. Yes the engine sits further back but it is a considerably shorter package.

Both Toro Rosso boys doing a good job. Kvyat is very fast and increasingly performs well when it matters. Albon is fast too but still lacks some experience and consistency.

You know what, I'd say sign both of them up for 2020 here and now. Take some pressure off and let them develop. The team could use some stability anyway.
