Horner hopes that Albon can split the Mercedes, and cover one of the strategies they could use against Verstappen.

For his sake, let's hope his 2021 seat isn't dependent on suceeding to do that ;)

Yes. I think it’s connected to the PER failure a few weeks ago in Bahrain, so Merc are running detuned. Same for customer teams as far as I’m aware.
So detuned that they outdragged RB16 on both long straights, and the corners implying the Mercedes is carrying more drag and more downforce. I wish I could detune my engine to let me run MORE downforce and still be faster on the straights.

So Honda is likely more powerful than Mercedes in today's race. At least in MGUK deployment. If a Mercedes wins I want no more excuses about power advantage OK, bull boys?

"Stroll estimated his turned down engine could cost him a tenth per lap during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which could prove significant in the battle with McLaren and Renault for P3 in the Constructors’ Championship."

Considering Merc's massive advantage 1/10th per lap shouldnt bother them too much.

I think Hamilton might be going very long... he is keeping a large gap to Bottas.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

That would totally have been a full safety car if the Mercedes were in the lead!

Hamilton should not have pitted. Silly move from Merc to to the same with both cars.

Well eventually they’ve had to.
It is frustrating losing so many laps to safety cars this season. At least it’s early in the race so none of this unlapping nonsense to waste even more laps.

Yeah why didn’t Mercedes split strategy. Gonna have to catch verstappen and overtake on track. He will have better tyres on end of race too

Parity in strategy innit. Contrary to what some conspiracists on here would have you believe.

Actually with the full SC now it was definitely the right move.

They could have dictated pace with the leading car... not sure overtaking is possible. Just seems daft.

So no "Hamilton override box order" this time.
But still he surly would in Bahrain...

Great to see a Ferrari battling with a McLaren just like old times. Shame it’s for 8th place 😭
