McLaren MCL35M

Mclaren packed a massive central radiator, can only wonder just how enormous the Alpine is gonna be.

F1 banned the use of panels that the teams used to hide their cars, if I am now wrong :D
They can use the panels when doing major work. I think the rule is you can close up when taking the floor off.

It's similar to last year, and even 2019

The Renault one is enormous (from 2018 to 20) because it's packaged in a different manner

The McLaren side radiators are also thicker than the Mercedes.

I can only believe that as they get to know the engine and cooling needs the radiator will shrink. It's a bit logical to me :D

With this years homologation rules that’s unlikely to change, but having a years experience with the Merc PU will pay dividends for 2022

Yes, I think James Key had stated that they could have been more aggressive with the packaging, but the rules this year prevented that.

Was just thinking that. It's a thing of beauty.

I remember in the AMuS interview with James Key that was posted on here, he was asked why the MCL35M didn’t have the bulge like the Mercedes and Aston Martin. He said they’d gone with a different philosophy, and he then said that’s all he’s going to say on the matter. Made me wonder if he felt McLaren had found something more efficient.

Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Very cool shot.

It shows how the plenums are spread wider and lower than before no longer together. (possible leaving a straighter path for charge pipes? Bigger volumes? Bigger VLIM?)

Most obvjious is that it allowed McLaren to keep a Honda-Esque arrangement of a very large, long cooler on top of the engine to allow even tighter side-pods.

The other thing I notice is that thy have an air to air intercooler. They did not use the chassis modification allowed to change to water cooled. So basically all Mercedes customers are air to air?? (aston?).
