I am wondering if Mercedes have fitted a one-race screamer ICE to Hamilton's car for the weekend. Take the 5 place penalty, but run the ICE at max+ all weekend to try and win the race, then discard it after the race because it is totally worn out.

I was just thinking the same. If they only get a 5 place penalty for an ICE, could they do that at every race?

Christian Horner and Red Bull in general are really annoying with their constant repetition of how Mercs straight line speed is the reason they are faster. Whenever they are in front its because of their chassis, whenever they are behind its because of the power unit. Pathetic. No wonder Honda left :). They would never get the credit.

Interesting thought, I wonder how much more power you could gain like that, for a 5 place pen, it could be well worth it. Could do it for every race if you wanted to do so.

If a race is taking place at a circuit where the fuel flows are at or close to the limit, then the ICE might already be performing close to its absolute maximum anyway. But you can always run it closer to the ragged edge in terms of fuel consumption if you don't have to worry about pistons and valves lasting for 6 races plus umpteen practice sessions.

Predictions on which car is faster on which track are pretty useless lately.

Waiting for someone to tell me mercedes isn't dominant on this track  half a second on a 1.08s lap.
Hamilton still starts 5th for race day, and that's assuming he wins the sprint. Verstappen has been pretty good at turning P2 on the grid in to P1 out of T1 so he's got every chance of winning the sprint and starting on pole for the GP with Hamilton in P6.

Oh stop it. You do this anytime Merc is quicker. It’s become so boring and predictable.
Same denial!
You’re even more predictable.

You saying it ain't true? On this track? Basically walked every session so far by large margins.
