On average, between 3 and 5 for 2010 onward, but previous seasons saw as many as 7 and 10 tubs being built. BMW Sauber and Toyota were bad for this sometimes using, BMW era Williams were bad, Benneton were also bad for multiple chassis as well. Ferarri and McLaren commonly use arround 6 a season.
From the data i have, the best teams are teams that commonly produce 4 or 5 tubs a year, one for the 7 post rig and the wind tunnel that is in use in pre season testing and is the T car for the first 4 fly aways, two (2 & 3) to start the year for both drivers, and once you get to Europe, a team should introduce its first new chassis (4) for the heavier or more experienced driver at Spain, and the second new one (5) at Turkey, alternating between chassis 2 and 3 for T car duties.
