Yep, Lehto crashed pre season in Silverstone and was out for Brazil and Pacific. Alesi crashed after Brazil in Mugello with back injury and missed Pazific and Imola.
Later Lamy and Montermini joined the victim list and even more are possible. I havn't researched that.
Over to timbo!

Formula One's fundamental ethos is about success coming to those with the most ingenious engineering and best ..............................organization, not to those with the biggest budget. (Dave Richards)

Since we mentioned Jean Alesi, who is one of my all time favorite drivers...
What is biggest "what if?" about his career and why we can't say he made an irrational decision at the time?

Signing for both Ferrari and Williams for the same year, selecting the former...a****le...

The option for Jean was to join Williams in 1993, teaming him up with Alain Prost, which might not have been the best surroundings for the Sicilian.
At Ferrari he couldn't wave a stick at the Williams and Benettons, but he was king in his own country, the 1995 win in Montreal will never be forgotten.

Do you seriously think he wanted to be first guy in town? Well, one can definitely argue that it was emotional decision to stay at Ferrari. But was it purely emotional why he came there? Focus on 1990 situation.
Of course, with John Barnard still there things would have been radically different, but he must have known about that?
In 1990 here was basically two drivers around, one driving for McLaren and one for Ferrari, why you could possibly see two competitive teams and not three or four, some logic to that perhaps.

The situation was he was in a crud car. He chose Ferrari as being a Franco Siccilian, this is actually a default choice! No Brain power required with those roots....
Aslo He would have Prost as his team mate. On paper you cannot blame him.
